I saw these pictures online and searched, then found the listing. I was like, oh a Z project.... waaaaaait...... A Hakosuka motor... uhhhhh, 432 then! O-0 So I guess they restored it because the listing has it all shiny for sale. I see that it had a Datsun 510 SSS steering wheel, it has the three spokes with the horn pads built into them. I actually have one of those, my Z came with one and I changed it to the regular 240Z wheel. But their finished car has a regular wheel pictured. Those rims are worth a fortune alone, they are 432 specific.

I might have to sell my Z, I’m not sure yet, it’s awful having to think about it.

I would get an OS Giken Hakosuka for $30k and swap it. I’d be afraid to drive a real 432 or 432R! When I see new 911s around I think they could have just built a 432 clone and had a lot of money left over.

Well the Z math isn’t really adding up, if I had a garage so I could take it out quick and start it every few days as well it would be easier to keep. I have to go get it like I take out my kayak and it takes time to just get it out. My wife and every dog I’ve had so far with it don’t really enjoy riding in it . It’s also hot in the car and the dog hates that too. So we have to take the Mercedes anywhere and I just feel guilty for not driving the Z, and if I take it and leave them home to go for a drive I feel . If we take the boat I need the TSX or eventually the truck. Then we get to the truck, I have this feeling I’m going to hate the tranny in it, I drove it a couple times and we got a new tranny top that helped. I was thinking of putting a slant 6 in it and a better tranny with it so I could drive it more often, keep it a Chrysler inline engine but get fifty more HP, mechanically easier to work on, those engines are one of the best ever made. It will annoy me if I have to sell the Z and then the truck is a pain to drive with the soccer moms all around me. I don’t know, I will think about it, I will have to do a couple things if I put it on Bring a Trailer, it would probably sell for more on there. The prices people pay is kind of all over the place, I see some sell for less than I thought and I see some sell for more than I think they are worth.

It’s 420 every night here. They also made 18 of the Z432R, a race specific version. The Z was supposed to be an affordable sports car so the SOHC version most of us have is pretty awesome when you do some things to them, the Skyline motor would have put it in a more expensive category and you wouldn’t see many Zs today. They printed money with the 240Z, nobody saw anything like a European sports coupe for that price, performance and reliability.

From what you tell me having the Dodge and the Z as two cars no one but you wants to ride in could be a problem. I think you need to pick one to keep and the Z market is pretty hot right now. I wish you the best of luck in discovering a solution that works agreeably for both you and your wife.

I think they will like the truck, Sylvie at least won’t hate it since it isn’t rough, hot and noisy like the Z. The truck can also carry things, like the boat. It just seems like if I make the truck more usable it isn’t a problem to have. The Mercedes doesn’t cost much to keep and it isn’t worth enough to sell it for helping with anything.

Sounds like there’s your answer. Sad to see a Z go but you have quite a large fleet and it isn’t getting driven as much as it deserves.

Yeah it feels a little bit too much to handle right now. I took the Z out yesterday, smoke is gone for now, I really hope it doesn’t come back.

I didn’t hear about that development. Smoke from the headgasket perhaps or something else? BaT is a good place to sell a Z right now and the Z Proto seems to have people thinking about old Datsuns more than before.
